How do you increase image resolution?
So I have a massive collection of public domain images
and I need to increase the image resolution for a few
of them so that I can print onto clothing so they have
to be blown up to a pretty big size.
My question is what is the best way to increase the image resolution?
Is there a tool?
plugin?
technique? that works best for this.
Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Re: How do you increase image resolution?
P.S. The new manufacturer that I am working with also wants all images in 300 dpi. How do I go about doing that?

Re: How do you increase image resolution?
It's a nice easy step but there are things to look out for.
Basically to simply change the image resolution say from 72dpi (best for web images) to 300dpi (for print)
Open your image and go to Image > Image Size and under Document Size you will see Resolution, Simply change this to 300
However there are things to watch out for, for example if you just changed the resolution and click Ok, make sure you view the image in Photoshop at 100% as this will be exactly what quality it will print out like. Now depending on the size of your original image this maybe too pixelated now, so you may need to adjust the size of the document making it smaller until you get a good result with a non pixelated look. However this may mean it is not exactly the measurements you wanted but it all depends on what you have to work with at the start.
I know there is something to do with re-sampling aswell which I think re-samples the pixels to make the size you want, but I do not know much about this, maybe someone else can give some advice for the both of us on re-sampling an image???
Hope this helps

Re: How do you increase image resolution?
Going from 72 to 300 requires the creation of a lot of pixels which don't exist, that is what resampling does. Resampling is more or less guesswork based on the surrounding pixels. Trying to do this is likely not going to give you acceptable results for printing.

Oh right, so resampling is like adding in required dots per inch to make the exact size you need? Thanks got that issued cleared in my head

Yes, but they are pixels not dots. Dots are for printers.

Re: How do you increase image resolution?
A plugin called Perfect resize by on ONe software.
Just a heads up though converting any image from 72 dpi to 300 dpi will make the image almost 4 times the size and shouldnt be done to that extreme or your image will become all blurry. even with using a good plugin such as perfect resize
