Black Backgroud

Hello:
I'll try to be descriptive as to what I'm trying to accomplish. I have a photo of a 'rose,' but the background is ugly with weeds, rocks, etc. How can I create a black background with only the rose pedals on a black background?
Any tutorial or video would be appreciated. Yes I'm a newbie. Here is an example of what I'm try to achieve.

it's actually quite difficult to get a clean separation especially when there is minimal contrast between foreground and background. most of those shots are just taken with a rose literally sitting in front of a black backdrop
