Merging old and new, digital and analogue photos. Please help.

Hi, ive been using photoshop for a while but not used it for anything
    special.

I want to create a photo for a present. I was going to try and use old photos
of people, taken with an analogue camera, scan them in and also use digital
    photos of people.

The idea is to make one family photo of lots of people using various different
    photos.

As all the photos will have been taken with various different lenses, different
lighting, with different resolutions, can anyone suggest any good ways of
making it look like it is one photo, taken at the same time???

    Any suggestions appriciated thanks.

I would try to neutralise all of them as much as possible maybe just using auto tone \ colour\ will be enough but mixing digital pics with scanned images will be a bit tricky to match resolution etc.

But if you can get them all looking close colour wise background etc then you may be able to hide some of the difference by applying a vintage style look to the image.

But without seeing all the images it is hard to say and sounds like you have a big task to do.

Kriss - what a lovely idea!!!

I did a similar collage for my father's 75th birthday. Hoogle is right - it's a lot of work to get get it right, but people are so grateful to receive things like this and it's worth doing.

Let us know how it gets on.

    Thanks guys.

I'm not even going to try colour. I figure, make it a black n white photo and focus on contrast. The theory is that would be an easier way of doing it.

yes on conversion do it via a black and white adjustment layer then you will be able to adjust each colour channel to get even tonal range through out all your pictures there is nothing saying you cant artificially colour the balck and white picture afterwards
