Just to clarify before you read,
I completely understand that my friend WILL NOT look exactly like this guy. I just want to learn the background effects.

I'm trying to edit a picture of one of my teammates from hockey. I want it to look like this :



He started off like this



Now I've already completely removed the background, leaving me with just him, nothing else. Is there any way I could add the extra effects? Thanks so much!

looks to me like just different colors using different brushes and simple paint the shape/effect you want.
should also say each color/brush are on separate layers
