HUGE Photoshop CS4 temp files! (55 gigs!)
I just started to try to clean up my hard drive and using CCleaner I found that I had 70 GIGS OF FILES IN TEMP!!! most of this is made up of a 55 gig photoshop temp file and a bunch of 300-750 MB photoshop temp files. I am just wondering why these are in there, why they are so big, and if I can safely delete them.
Thanks!

Those temp files are part of Photoshop's scratch disk, which allocates a fair amount of virtual memory to run the program. Normally those files are deleted when you close Photoshop, but they remain if it crashes instead. Over time they can cumulate and eat up your disk space, so make sure you delete them manually instead.

These files won't delete. They say they are in use. That can't be because the date is over a month ago. How do I mark them NOT in use so I can delete them?

Reboot your PC and don't start any programs. Go directly to the file and delete it.
OR,
In Windows Explorer, switch to View-Details and then select View-Choose Details. Uncheck everything except the file name. This stops Windows XP trying to read the file - this problem affects many video, audio and graphics files.
Still no luck?
OK, here is the best trick of all. Most sites give you cryptic Windows registry and DOS commands to remove a file, but the answer is so much simpler. Get a copy of MoveOnBoot. It's free and this simple tool allows you to Move, Copy or Delete files before Windows can lock or alter the files. The changes are made to your hard drive before Windows starts, hence it requires a restart of your system after you give MoveOnBoot its instructions. There are no messy boot or DOS commands, just a simple 3-step process.
