Photoshop CS suddenly has "Not Responding" error. Why?
Hi guys,
I've been using Photoshop CS on my Windows Vista computer for a few years now with no problems what-so-ever.
Then suddenly one day it stopped working. It launched just fine, just as normal. But when I would click on anything it would say "(Not Responding)" and basically just freeze up. Then after a minute or so a window would pop up that says "Adobe Activation - An error has been detected and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."
I tried re-launching and re-booting, but no luck. So I reinstalled the program. No luck. So I uninstalled it, then re-installed it. No luck. I even tried the Ctrl-Alt-Shift reset thingy, but no luck. I called Adobe but they no longer support this version.
Any thoughts as to how to fix this very frustrating problem?
Thanks in advance...

Memory seems to be fine. In fact everything seems to be fine -- except Photoshop.
Very strange hoe it worked all this time, and now... nothing.

Did you try checking to see if your registry was cleaned before the new install?? Some times things get left in an uninstall and the software will leave artifacts behind..
If it's not that, then it may be a corrupt file..

Well, no, but the problem happened out of the blue, years after it was installed for the first time. Know what I mean?

I'm thinking it has something to do with your activation key or something. Did you buy it on a CD? Or did it come with an activation number, because it says Adobe Activation error product cannot continue. What version is this?

Not a number, no. It actually appears to be fine upon launch. In fact it fully launches. But then when I click on File (or ANYthing else) the screen goes pale/white and it says "(Not Responding)" in the Title area (next to Photoshop CS). Then, if I wait long enough, an error box appears that says "Adobe Activation - An error has been detected and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application."

It's Photoshop CS. I bought it as an upgrade to Photoshop 7 (which was an upgrade to whatever version I had before that).
Totally legal copy -- Adobe even verified the serial number, but then said they couldn't help me because the version was too old.
By the way, I did try cleaning the registry, but it didn't help. :(

Well, i wouldn't normally suggest this but... If they want to be @ssholes and not help then simply crack it and be done...

I agree! There has been a few companies that haven't given any support when things stop working, so I get a cracked version of tinterweb. If I've paid the money for it, I want it.
