Problems printing with CS5
I'm having problems getting good prints when using Photoshop CS5 with my Epson Photo R2880 printer, problems I've never had with CS4. I'm using a iMac computer with OS X 10.6.5. Here's the situation:
If I take a PSD file and print it using CS4, everything works out perfectly. But if I take that same PSD file and print it out using CS5, the print is now offset top to bottom, as well as left to right, along with a 1/8" black strip being printed down the right edge of the paper. As far as I can tell, everything is set the same.
I've compared all the print information found in the Print dialog summary box between CS4 and CS5 and everything appears to be the same. I'm using the latest CS5 version 12.0.2. I've verified that I'm using the latest print driver with my printer, and I am. It's 8.27. I've verified that I've checked off the box to center the print to the paper, each time I've made a print. And in trying to figure out what's going on, I've discovered that this problem occurs with any paper size when using CS5, but not with CS4.
I'm stumped and frustrated and without any more ideas as to what I should do next, except to always print my projects using CS4. If anyone has an idea for me, please let me know!
Thanks!

Re: Problems printing with CS5
Wow, that's strange.
I have no idea if this will help but it can't hurt.
Make sure the video drivers for your graphics card are up to date.
There have been a lot of problems with CS5 linked to the video drivers.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't understand anything about Video drivers for the graphics cards, especially how it might play into my problem, but I'll look into it.
Would you suggest I get with Apple or Adobe to find out which video driver is needed for CS5?

You need to search Apple for the information.
Like I said I don't know that it will help and you can screw up your system if you do something wrong.
Here's something I found, but don't do anything unless you're sure of what your doing.
Update your video card drivers | Tribal Trouble
I use a PC so I'm not sure how to do this or if you need to do this on a Mac but there have been issues associated with the video driver, nothing like your's though.
You said it happens with PSD files, how about other file types.
Try flattening a PSD, save as a tif or jpg, and reopen the saved jpg or tiff, same problem?
I found this too, not the same problem but it refers to a printer not being able to interpret a complex image.
Can you use your computer to print to another printer?

Re: Problems printing with CS5
I found on this site a link to Adobe that talks about how you can identify your video driver / graphics card that I need to read to see if I'm up to date there, and if not, what I should do next.
Also I'll try your suggestion of flattening my PSD down to a TIFF or JPG and see what happens there. Or try it to another printer. And then when I find something out, I'll post it for everyone to see.
I've never done these type of forums before, but this one has been great so far. I might not have the solution in hand yet, but at least I have some suggestions to follow up on. The forum at Adobe has yielded no responses. Very disappointing.

Re: Problems printing with CS5
This is a good forum and the folks here really try to help each other out.
I would be really curious to see if the problem is with only PSG files.
And then when I find something out, I'll post it for everyone to see
Excellent, that helps everyone.

Re: Problems printing with CS5
I would recommend to post again in the User to User forum of Adobe, as Dave Polachek and other Adobe Engineers hang out there, but do title your thread with "12.02", "printing" and "bug" in there, so that they catch it quickly.

Re: Problems printing with CS5
Solution seems to be at hand:
Since my last post about the printing problems I was having with CS5, I think it has been resolved. But to be quite honest with you, I'm not sure what has solved the problem, yet I want to share with everyone two things that I did today that by themselves might have been the solution, or perhaps together, made for the solution to my printing problem.
1. After filing a Support Case with Adobe about my situation, the first thing they had me do was this:
"Select the Adobe Photoshop CS5 application file, installed by default in the Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS5 folder.
Choose File > Get Info, and if Open in 32 Bit Mode is selected then uncheck it and if Open in 32 Bit is unchecked then select it .
Then try to print from Photoshop CS5 and let us know the result."
When I selected my Photoshop CS5 app. file and looked into it as suggested, the "Open in 32-Bit Mode" box was NOT checked, so I checked it. Then I did some four test prints with varying results.
Two test prints were done with PSD files that were printed out 8" x 10". Both of these prints were perfect. So I had success here.
But then I printed two test prints of another PSD file that were 13" x 19" in size. Both prints were bad, just as they had been earlier. So did the checking, or unchecking of the 32 Bit Mode box solve anything? I'm not sure.
2. Here is the second thing that I did, in particular with the PSD file that prints out 13" x 19".
Previously when I was printing this file out, I would set the Paper Size to "My 13" x 19". This was a custom paper size I had created that was exactly 13" x 19". After doing the last 2 prints that failed, I got looking at the other options I had for printing 13" x 19". One of them is called Super B (13' x 19"), yet it also says it's 12.95 x 19.01. Why that is, I don't know, yet this time I selected it, then scaled it to 95% then hit print to see what would happen…and there it was. A beautiful print on 13" x 19" paper. Something I hadn't been able to get using CS5.
Was this the problem all along, or did the 32-Bit Mode box NOT being checked off have something to do with it? You know, after all of this, I'm not sure, and I'm a bit embarrassed to think all of this could have been my fault too, yet I'm greatly relieved that it isn't a software or hardware problem that I was having. So if anyone has any thoughts on the things that I've shared, I'd love to hear them to wrap this all up.
Thank you everyone who has offered me assistance with this problem.

I'm not a Mac guy but I'm trying to follow this.
You have 32bit and 64bit version on your computer?
