Corrupt File of Painting I'm Heartbroken please help!

I was working on a large file on my CS4 photoshop on my laptop. I was working on a digital painting, which has been fine. I saved it, before I was heading home from work, and when I got home to open it, it said that something was wrong with the file and i could either open it or not, even with it being broken. I opened it and it was a flattened black layer with the same dimensions. No layers and the image was completely gone. I am heartbroken. I hadn't had a chance to back it up yet, as I had nothing at work to do so. Is there ANY way of recovering a file that this has happened to? I tried to download some free psd repair thing and it just made a copy of the black screen. I am so upset, It was one of my best paintings. If anyone could help me, I would be eternally grateful! I hope someone on here will know what i can do.

omg thank you so much! I have never uploaded anything to a forum like this before, and I just joined today, how would I go about doing that? It was a huge file too, so hopefully it can be uploaded. Thanks again so much.

use the upload image button but select the psd file but I think there is a 21mb limit

yea it says it's 186 MB :( It already seems corrupt beyond help, but I am still hoping someone can fix it. Would it affect it even more if I tried to change the file size to upload it here? I tried to use that program you suggested as well as another one I found online, but it just made a copy of the black flattened corrupt nothing.

what operating system are you using you may be lucky and be able to right click the file and select restore previous working version but honestly it sounds like it has gone always keep a back up usually on an external pen drive just incase things like this happen
