How do I create this effect? (Dark Buildings)

Hello,

First off, hello to everyone. This is my first post in this forum.

I take quite a lot of photos of architecture and Im quite into HDR. I came across this link 24 Impressive Dark And Light Photos | (especailly the first four images) and would love to learn how to create the dark effect seen in these photos.

Ive got a fair idea how I could achieve similar results but could anyone talk me through the main bits?

Im guessing exposure tools, burn tool, vignette, lighting etc would be some things to consider.

If anyone can point me in the direction of any tutorials Id be eternally grateful.

Im thinking Id like to make similar for a photography project I have to do.

those photos are awsome....

ummm as for tutorials, there are like millions ive seen(never really saved many.

but look for "horror" themed images, these always involve dark BG and things.

i dont think there is one tutorial that will tell you everything, but there will be a couple, which you can combine to get your end result.

Thanks for your response. Im sure I know your username from somewhere else...(Deviantart? Quake Live?!)

I was hoping someone would be able to say, "ah yes, this is xyz phototography...its all about using the phalangy over at least 6 layers", but I guess its really to do with a lot of fine tweeking.

In fact, I now know it is as I think I have pretty much worked it out now. I managed to achieve similar last night and turned a day time picture into night. (Then photoshop crashed before Id saved...why haven't they got autosave?)

haha yer, deviant art probably... love it so much

there is alot of fine tweeking involved, but using filters like exposure and such can do alot....

i think there is a PS backup system, they are saved somewhere with weird numbers and as psd files. im not sure where though.

i juse spent 10 mins googling, and i figured there is alot of exposure, Hue/Saturation and level work with these images.

Agreed. Those images in that link are distinctly excellent. Love the atmospheric mood created. Just what I need to help me with my quest for dark atmospheric BWs.

Looking at what you did, I'd say you are definatley on the right path. A fine effort. What tutorial did you follow?
