The shadow is wrong. Think about it. Where is the light source? Follow the shadow from the car.

Actually the shadow would fall that way, as the nail is so large it would dwarf the side of big ben, but thanks for replying.

So you are saying the sun is shining on it from below to cast the shadow upward? The light source that is casting a shadow on your image is coming from the street on the left.

The nail has a shadow on the face yet the shadow is casting behind it.

It is not the angle of the shadow, just the size IMO.

The angle of the shadow determands the size and shape of the shadow. The shadows under the cars are very shallow because it appears the sun (light source) is almost strait above (midday). I challange anyone to find a day time photo of a building where a shadow on the building is above the horizon line of the object that's casting it.

    Re: Unfinished

Iam guessing the shot was taken around 5.05 pm so the sun will be lower aand emitting a nice soft golden light so the shadow is not to far off I think the real problem here is the perspective view of the nail is not that clear but I dont think the nail head should be lower than the shadow of the nail head. So I would lower the shadow as to me judging by the shade on the building to the left the sun is about a 10 oclock position so my theory is the shadow would be flat between 2 and 3 o clock angle and wider. the perspective of the shot makes it hard to really judge but big ben is a tall building So the sun probably would be about the height of the nail visually
If I was to finish this this would be my angles I would use.

That looks more like what a reflection would do not a shadow.

    Re: Unfinished

the angle of light is to low for the shadow to be below it. The sun obviously is not below the nail looking up at it so the shadow wouldnt be above it nor is the sun above it looking down at it so however you look at wether it be a shadow or a reflection, it has to be somewhere in between I just think the shadow cast would be higher than the nail point of inpact but not hitting the other face of big ben so you would only get a lower section of the nail casting an actual visible shadow.

Take the cars for example they have short shadows heading in the 2 - 3 o clock position big ben is not that much higher for it to act completely different the theory still applies. the lines I drew out were nkot to represent the shadow but a path.
