Looks good except why is the building image covering the banner?

It is just the design I wanted to put the site as. I'm not even allowed to use that logo, it's just one I got off the site. I will probably have to make my own.

I like elements of both, though this one is certainly "open" -- clean as dv8 said. I'm a very basic web design gal but I can critique designs themselves. The old IMHO deal. I'll take a look at your other one later and see if I have any worthwhile input.
