There is no denying it is bright, but a high key look with the brightness of the OP's retouched version is not only acceptable, but quite common in advertising and other commercial work. If this was indeed the OP's intent, I think this level of brightness is just fine.
I can easily see the difference between gray levels 3 and 5, and between 251 and 253 on my system. Unless your monitor was recently calibrated, it would be easy to think that major parts of this image were blown out. They are not. The closest I could find was some limited areas where the red ch was up to 254.
