    Image formats as related to Photoshop

    There are many formats available, just use according to your requirement. But I would suggest you not to use the jpg format rather use the PNG one! It will be fit in all purpose.

    Image Types For Mobile Platforms?

    There are bit difference in jpg and png format. If you save any image in jpg format the size will be less but background will not be transparent but if you save the image in png format then it will be in transparent background but may be size will differ.

    I guess you need to have the separate leyer for chaning color of different space. I guess masking can help you out on this.
