A challenge to divide up image sections... ideas?

It's been awhile since I have back to this thread so my apoligies to Tom if you are reading this. I was busy working on other sections of the project. To answer you question Tom, the reason we start with a bigger shape it we are to automate the process of creating all the building shapes...

A challenge to divide up image sections... ideas?

As an update, I notice Illustrator has the same function so it may be easier to trace the black blotches into vectors then adjust thickness and add the dashes there. I'll mess with that for awhile to see what I come up with.

A challenge to divide up image sections... ideas?

I see what you are doing and was able to create something similar. But you used the pen tool to create a path. My objects (for lack of the proper term), are already created above. Is there a way to select those, make them the vector path ready to accept the dashed stroke? Is that what you...

A challenge to divide up image sections... ideas?

Ok, this should give you a better idea. Think of the image as a top down map of a town. Each divided black spot is a house plot. I am researching on the tiling a plane as you suggest.

A challenge to divide up image sections... ideas?

Ok, as I keep working on this I have come up with this so far: 1. Using magic wand I select one, then SELECT/SIMILAR. 2. Then EDIT/STROKE and put in a random number for now of 50px, LOCATION was Inside (chose red just to show difference) and this is what I got. On the way it looks like. Now...

A challenge to divide up image sections... ideas?

You guys have been so helpful to me solving problems/suggesting ideas that I thought I would put forth this issue. I am trying to discover a way to divide up sections of an image (not to be confused with "slices"). So the first screenshot shows the before shot. Solid areas of black (this is...

Matching edges automatically up when adding a new layer?

Wow, Tom, I thought you found the cure for me as my settings were exactly opposite. I had resize unchecked and Create Smart object checked. The first time I did place a file it worked! But every time after that so far it is off by a pixel. :( I starte with a fresh project, one image. Then...

Matching edges automatically up when adding a new layer?

ibclare wrote "I don't get it guys. When you drag and drop a layer from one psd to another, it will not necessarily be centered exactly like the other, for instance, if it is two photos of the exact same dimension. OTOH, if you copy and paste, they will be positioned exactly. That is pretty...

Combining images yet retaining each level of "brightness"...

Interesting ibclare, the issue revolves more around if you took the image you worked on above as several layers how would you maintain each levels' intensity (what I have been calling brightness), after making adjustments then combining the layers? That's my issue. Let me ask a question here...

Combining images yet retaining each level of "brightness"...

Yes, there is lot's of color adjustments, curves, saturation, masking, etc. Testing many different methods for the results we are looking for. Regarding the details being blacked out, no in fact we plan to adjust that layer (the base) to create additional type lights and forms of the buildings...

Combining images yet retaining each level of "brightness"...

I can't upload a portion of the work as it would be too large to upload. But here is what we are doing. We are taking daytime aerial imagery and creating nighttime imagery from it. A large multi-year project as we will be doing this for the entire United States. The nighttime example is the...

Matching edges automatically up when adding a new layer?

Hey guys, thx for the quick replies. For Mr. Tom, yes that is what I meant was drag-n-dropping. Couple of updates. I did create a new test "project" where the size was 1024 x 1024. So I dragged and dropped several other 1024 images and sure enough they happen to line up perfectly. My...
