    my first work here!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the spelling error. Or was that intentional and I'm just not getting it?

    restoring an old photo

Wow. Thanks for all the input! As I figured, this is a lot more complicated than what I want to get into, or even have the skill to do so. The photo means nothing to me personally, nor am I getting paid to fix it. So I think I'll just let it go as is. I trust you guys had fun playing with it? :)

    restoring an old photo

In the top image, some of the elements look positive but some, especially the people, look negative - due to the solarization effect I assume? So I don't think inverting the entire image is the answer. Do I have to treat each specific area as needed or is there an adjustment or filter that will...

    restoring an old photo

First of all, I'm not asking for anyone to do this for me - I just need advice on what to do. The top image looks like a negative but it's actually a print from an old, old roll of 35mm film. Most of the photos printed as faded B&Ws, but some printed like this. I'd like to restore the photo...

    Still using Photoshop 7.0

I knew that, but I don't know a student right now. My daughter might go back to school, so if she does I might take advantage of it then.

Sorry Tracy, I accidentally removed your official "thanks". Thank you!

    Still using Photoshop 7.0

For free? How?? I got the 7.0 through my employer at the time because I did work at home. Does that matter?

    Still using Photoshop 7.0

When I was introduced to Photoshop, 7.0 was all the rage... and I'm still using it. I've been feeling a little left behind on the Technological Train (hi-speed locomotive) however, and I'd like to upgrade. I used the trial for CS5 and I loved it, but I can't afford that big ticket yet. What...

    combining old photo and new

It's been awhile since I posted this project... now that the holidays are over I've gotten back to working on it. Here's what I've done and I'm just going to be satisfied with it. I'm not totally happy with the difference in lighting but I can't make it perfect (I'm too much of a...

    Old dog

Thanks so much, guys! And by "guys" I mean "gals" too, as I am one ;) Yes, I've been content to use what I know but lately, for a lot of different reasons, I'm craving the idea of actually becoming proficient. I've already learned just by being here, and I'll post my results when I'm finished...

Ah, I selected the layer but I didn't realize I had to select the mask itself. These little bitty details can be such stumbling blocks!

I'm following your instructions but after I create the mask layer and adjust the curves it won't let me apply a brush to it. The circle with the diagonal line through it appears. What step am I missing?

Thank you! I will try this and let you know how it goes.

    combining old photo and new

This is the photo as she gave it to me. She scanned the two images, overlapping them. This is what I have so far. (They are on different layers.) The daughter is getting washed-out compared to the original photo, and she still has that "flash" look. I did a little dodging on the face on the...

    combining old photo and new

I'm a newbie to the forum, and have been playing around with Photoshop for some years now. I'm sure this question has been asked before but I wouldn't even begin to know how to search for it... I'm doing a favor for a friend and creating an image of herself and her daughter side-by-side at the...
