    Just found the best way to do it. For others out there trying to do the same this is how I did it. Create your image as you normally would making sure not to put anything on the background. Save the image as a .psd image (this would be your master) Close the image and open it in GIMP...

    judging my the lack of response I'm assuming photoshop can't do what I am asking!! Its a real shame. I prefer photoshop over MS Expression Design but ED seems to get it right every time where as I'm now tired trying to get it to work in photoshop.
