Can blend mode be used on a selection?

Hi, I selected a small area today, painted on it and changed the opacity. Then I thought it might be interesting to apply different blend modes to it, but they changed the whole image. I saved the selection. Made a new layer, cntrl-alt-shft-e and added the selection but it still didn't work...

    Problem with layers

Thanks for the long and thorough explanation. But would it have answered the questions that I asked here? I decided about 15 years ago that Adobe help (official) was probably the worst on the Internet. And it still almost assumes that you know that answer to the question that you are...

    Problem with layers

"Instead, use the Ctrl + Alt + Shift + E command I mentioned before". I read it and have now noted it - thank you so much. I have been flattening images until now and then doing cntrl J Please check layer tutorials on the web. They are all about looking down from the top layer which doesn't...

    Problem with layers

OK I learned something really important so thank you. But after following all the advice and getting things looking nice, I then wanted to to use the quick selection tool. This doesn't seem to work with a new layer. So what to do? The things in this thread are missing in all the tutorials...

    Problem with layers

So simple but not so obvious. I knew about creating a new blank layer but always had in mind that I wouldn't be able to clone it etc. And I got into bad habits :-( Michael

    Problem with layers

Hi, I should have asked about this issue a long time ago. Have been working around it for quite a while. Right now for example I used the spot healing brush tool on a copy of the bg layer cntrl j in windows. Now I want to use the clone tool and then reduce the opacity but I don't want the...

    Create perspective on a layer

Thanks I can look for larger backgrounds on the web. I made them both the same size but still ended up with having the perspective showing as transparent in the top left and right corners. How did you avoid that? Really only experiment with this photo. Nice job on the drop shadow! Michael
