    Happy days - All done now! All I had to do was move all the jpegs together in a folder, right click and select 'rotate clockwise' four times!     Thanks so much guys. I'm really glad you also found this strange, I thought it was my machine causing problems...but with a pretty standard installation of XP and Photoshop CS5.1 I wasn't sure where i was going wrong. I guess it must be something our supplier has used to process the images...
