    Plug-ins must be placed in the Plug-ins folder. (C:/Program files/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC (+version)/Plug-ins NOT Program files 86) ATN are 'actions' and should be placed in the Presets/Actions folder. Plug-ins, actions and filters are not the same thing! Install Photoshop Actions Install...

    The top left rectangle is called the foreground color, the one on the bottom right the background color. Clicking on the foreground or background color will open the color picker. To switch from foreground color to background color, press X. Which version of PS are you using?

    Clipping with a non-identical result on a black or white background is an old PS issue. I've encoutered it myself and do not have a solution for it. But maintaining the existing layers with the desired result should not be a problem since the final result will be 'saved as' (Jpeg/PNG ect) and...

    You could make a 'snapshot' of the layers (shift+ctrl+alt+E)(this is not merging the layers but adding a new layer as if they were merged) and if this isn't working you could use the Camera Raw filter and go to the first tab and experiment with the exposure or highlights.
