    Don't know if this helps, but if you want your placed image to be in the corner just record an action: 1. place your file 2. Ctrl/Cmd+A to select all 3. V - Select move tool 4. Align to left 5. Align to top if you want to align to corner of another layer its the same process but step "2"...

    I've also tested new symmetry, since I had only several minutes with new PS and it's also bugged. Good that you can set old Ctrl+Z working as it should.. and remove new Scale with proportions without SHIFT..

    there are two quick ways ;) option A: 1. Image > Adjustments > Shadows/Highlights.. 2. Increase Shadows slider option B: 1. Filter > Camera Raw Filter.. 2. Increase Blacks and/or Shadow sliders PS. There are much more solutions, but I think those two are easiest and fastest ;)

    Best solution is to test this on another image, because tiff can save masks and even smart objects, but doesn't have to. I mean that software may to choose to flatten tiff file.

    TIFF will also remember masks and additional channels - where you can also save mask, and size of the file will be smaller. You can also use lossless LZW compression ;)
