    flaming pear

Computer Arts gave away two (free) FlamingPear filters with this month's edition - electroplate and zephyr. Unfortunately for me they're Mac OS X and not "Classic" - (and they won't be making them in "Classic"). There's a Windows version too on the CD. If you can't get the magazine and would...

    Help printin in photoshop

You could do a test print to find out how much bigger or smaller the image is compared to what you want, and then use the print options percentage to adjust it to what you want. (Unless the "print options" bit only applies to the Epson inkjet I use).

    Some nice (free!) fonts

True Type and OpenType ... http://www.steffmann.de/english/fonts.htm a selection of free fonts for personal use - some of them very decorative - as per the attached example, (which I've adorned with a couple of layer styles). It's a German site, so there are quite a few Fraktur (Blackletter)...

    PC vs MAC

Deep waters..... I have a Mac (vintage 1997) and use it for all my graphic work. It's a bit slow compared with more recent machines, but - until I find some more pennies - it'll do! I use Windows at work and they do the work they're given. An awful lot has been posted in various Mac...

    Introduction

Hi Marty, please pick at will. But I think sometimes that if I'd been allowed to pick brains I'd have asked for a more efficient set.... This is a very fascinating place to be! :bustagut:

    A Visit with The Larmands...

and note that anything that describes itself as "self-assembly" isn't. You open the box, take out the kit and it just lies there on the floor and makes no attempt to put itself together. [confused]

Scale to Fit Media Print Option

I use the option to print out large pictures on smaller sheets. My digital camera produces pix about 14" wide at 72dpi - which wont fit on 8x11 paper, so I usually scale them down to about 45% to fit nicely with a decent border of white paper. As for resampling and quality, I haven't...

Can anyone draw me a plane?

Drawn in Photoshop, or may we use Illustrator? Old-fashioned, cartoony or what? Not that I'm much good at drawing, but these applications are very clever.

How do you get so good?

You just keep playing with ideas and trying out the different tools. I found the Adobe manual a bit dull so I got the Photoshop Bible (number 4, I started with Photoshop 4) and worked on the ideas there. Sometimes - if not often - you hit on happy results by chance; especially when you try a...

oki i know this is incredibly dumb...

My brother works in graphic design - all Macs in his place. Another friend in printing uses all Macs but has a couple of PCs so he can run programs that are PC only. My son is into music and has a Mac; and I've got a PC at work and a Mac (by choice) at home. All my stuff's done on the Mac...

    layer styles......

Layer Styles You might like to try this idea - Create a new layer and give it a layer style. Then take a brush and draw on the layer. The strokes show up in the layer style. Calligraphic brushes, especially if wide, can be used to create letters or shapes; for example: draw a treetrunk in...

    PS Won't Open????? Help

If PS worked after the update from the Adobe site then XP must have changed something, so I would think remove and reinstall PS. If PS opens ok then get the PS update again and see if it works. If it doesn't then remove and reinstall PS but not the update. (By which time someone else might have...

Photoshop 6 not opening its own files properly; Powermac

Thanks both, for the welcome, and tips. I had already tried deleting the PS6 prefs file. The Prefs File that was corrupt was in fact the "File Exchange Preferences" and trashing that and restarting the Mac has cured the problem. (Solution via the Adobe User to User Photoshop forum which...

Photoshop 6 not opening its own files properly; Powermac

This is a new problem to me. Double-clicking on a file to open it in Photoshop often results in the message "This layered Photoshop file was not saved with a composite image". I haven't had this problem before. Also when opening some of these files by starting Photoshop first they open as...
