What... does nobody read the site anymore? sheesh. heh http://www.photoshopgurus.com/tutorials/t019.html

    setting up new computer

It sounds like you need to contact Adobe technical support at this point. You're obviously having technical problems with the actual program which is their purview. If the core functions of the app stop working, then all the knowledge of how to use the functioning tools is useless.

Print to PDF vs Distilling to PDF

Yeah... we kind of hijacked that thread towards the end... although, it all pertains to the original post in a round about way. I'm gonna leave the detailed PDF explanations up to ronmatt since he's apparently worked with PDF a lot more than I have and has a more intrinsic understanding of it.

Mmm. I don't deal with the output volume that you seem to so I can see where you would have concerns about it, I'd just never run into an issue with ID outputting a PDF. Have you run into these same problems using say Acrobat Distiller? It's always amazed me that adobe can't get PDF to work the...

    Flower

Bottom left corner of the "frame" for the picture is really jaggy... might want to smooth that out. I'm not sure I like the black glow around the whole thing. Other than that, looks pretty slick. Nice extraction job.

    business card

Your guess is as good as ours. Without talking to the printshop that will be doing the printing, and knowing their specific requirements, it's impossible to do anything but guess about how it will turn out. I can say that Photoshop probably isn't the best place to design a card that is going to...

To what do you refer? My experience has always been that Quark has major preflight and embedding problems... one of the things (the many things) I hate about it. While I probably wouldn't use PS (don't know how well the new CS2 and CS3 PDF engine works actually, never used it heh) I've never had...

    New to Photoshop; help sharpening

I was referring to selections made using selection tools like the rectangular marquee et al. Making sure you have the layer you want to work on highlighted on the layers palette is important too... as well as making sure that there aren't any layers above that layer which are visible that might...

If they're sending a flattened rasterized version... what difference does it make? ;) I can't think of anything Quark does play nicely with... including the designer. hehe The two big tricks with this, as I alluded to earlier, is that you 1. need to know the exact LPI of the output device...

Help a Newbie With Layer Styles Please

It sounds to me like you're working with paths and not with shapes. You have to make these things either a shape layer or create a selection from the path as a layer then fill that with pixels for a layer style to apply. Or I guess you could copy and paste the shape onto a vector mask of a...

Seems to me that you've been given multiple answers to your question by multiple people. I don't see where you're having issues still with what you've been told. You don't have to take the advice, but saying that we're not answering you or giving our 'expertise' isn't true. You also haven't...

Make sure you don't have a selection somewhere that's active because it will only apply to that selection. Also make sure you're viewing the image at 100% magnification... USM wouldn't look like much if you're zoomed way out from the photo. Also, if this is a really large photo, you might be...

Well... since you said that what you did wasn't turning out right... then the advice is don't do it that way again. I'm not sure what you're trying to "fix" since this has already gone to press it sounds. Once you have a flat rasterized version of a file... you can't fix blurriness problems...

    match color palettes

Because 256 color images ( GIF especially ) use what's called a CLUT ( Color Look Up Table ) to generate their color palette, it's easy to export that palette for use with other images. Those 256 colors can be any of a diverse range of colors, but there are only 256 of them ever. With other RGB...

If you have InDesign... why aren't you using that to do your typesetting since that's what it's designed for. Type should always stay in vector format as long as possible. This means fonts if possible, or outline the fonts to create vector shapes if need be... or if you really really know what...

    CS3 icons

Well... it's certainly an improvement over the "Hi I'm a bland box" icons that ship with CS3. Personally I still like the PS7 era icons the best. Nice work.

    Spot Color

Yes, spot colors definitely have issues when they blend two gradients. In that logo, though, it seems like you have one spot gradient based on a tint and a solid knock-out for another spot color. In fact it even looks like there is a white border which would act as a large trap area for the...

Just about any graphics viewer should be able to rotate an image for you... am I missing something here?

Best Photoshop Product for a beginner.

Well... they offer "educational discounts"... which would make Photoshop about $250-300 instead of $1000. There are other alternatives to Photoshop you might consider also. Some of which are free. Paintshop Pro is a really popular program which only costs about $60USD or so...

show hide several layers at one time

Probably not gonna happen then. The functionality just isn't there without some kind of complex scripting probably from outside Photoshop.
