    You have to do it exactly how IamSam instructed. Somehow you've created a smart object layer, instead of a color fill with mask. Once you create this, use your brush with white to paint, use black to correct or remove.

    At the same time, I think it depends on the receiver, and how the message is delivered. Critique can still sound very much borderline criticism. I always try to be careful how I express my thoughts, as art is very subjective.

    I can't use Helvetica font in Photoshop?

    I think Adobe CC has it, but you'll need the premium $30 package to get it. Other than that, I've read that Ariel font is the closest substitute. I'm making an assumptions there are no free downloads, as it is copyrighted.
