    2 Stocks & 5 Smoking Layers | CHALLENGE #2

Haha I never would have thought of that! Great idea :). I'm halfway through mine, will post soon.

    Trying out a vintage effect

Tom: Thanks! :) That's good validation to get started writing up the tutorial. I love those old style vintage photos, they've got so much character. Inkz: Thanks for the kind words. Looking forward to checking out your piece. I had a look at your portfolio the other day, really nice work in...

    Trying out a vintage effect

Hey guys, I'm trying out a vintage style effect centered around using a single brush set + various PS tweaks. It's for an upcoming tutorial, and I'd love to get any advice before writing it up. Thanks in advance. (before & after)

    Drawing into Reality

I'm really liking the effect on the car. I'd make the background transition more gradual too though. Perhaps if some of the background elements could be done in a handdrawn style, then these drawn lines could taper off into the paper side.

Help! Can someone show me how to edit this?

Great technique! I was just playing around with a few other options and this seems to be the most effective by far.

    faux lighting effects

One lighting/background effect I really like is heavily blurring photographs with a nice color palette, and then adjusting/color correcting from there. This isn't mind, but is an example of the effect I mean:

    Halloween Faces

It took me ages to notice the face in the metal pot lol! Nice :). Those last two carvings are incredible too.

    Halloween

Wow, loving that top cemetry image Clare! Looks like something is just waiting to rise up from that tomb. :)

Also you seem to have lost the mid point, where it's half handdrawn, half realistic photo. Right now the mid section just looks like a bit of noise has been added, whereas before I think you had more of a balance between the two extremes.

    Drawing into Reality

Thanks Hershy! I love the style here, but I'd be interested to see it as a more gradual transition, instead of the sharp diagonal line. If you were able to smoothly and gradually transition from the starting point on the left to the realistic photo on the right that would be awesome.

    A Halloween Paper Toy

Wow, this is really creative! Always good to see digital art used in a new medium.

    Desolate Poster

ForeverFallenAngel: Yeah I do really like Inkz's version, it has a great palette. I guess it all depends on the desired look. As with most images there are a variety of possible outcomes. I just wondered how it would look of the planet structures appeared to be floating in space themselves.

    Fire Sprite

Glad you liked it Spectrum! I'd love to see how it looks with the brighter irises, but less flat whites.

    Fire Sprite

No problem! It's been a while since I worked on a piece like that, but I do remember it being a nightmare with blending skin etc! Perhaps some good old fashioned digital painting would work to bring out some of the features slightly? I like the idea of showing her humanity. I think all it was...

    Desolate Poster

Hey Inkz. I really love the composition here. The angels and the focal point are working really well. I wonder if it's playing it a little safe though in terms of colors? I don't know if you're going for the less-saturated feel for this piece, but I couldn't help jumping into PS and having a...

    Fire Sprite

This is really really nice! I love what you've done with the hair, which is a tricky effect to get right. You somehow got it flowing really nicely and with a great weight to it though, whilst keeping the awesome fire effect. I'd love to see a few more facial details retains. Where you get some...

    Halloween

Nice work Hershy. Imo the fence is obscuring the nice detail too much though. As you're looking for suggestions, here's some ideas: - I think the atmosphere and mood of the piece are great, but I'd be intrigued to see if you could make it even more of a nighttime scene (graveyards are...

    Drawing into Reality

I agree with Hoogle here, I think the difference needs to be more pronounced. When I first landed on the image I thought it was just a photo that had been over-shopped, and it took me a second to realize the drawing-to-reality transition. Personally, I don't think the transition needs to be...

    Another retouch.

No problem Jessica, I hope you'll post some more stuff here I can look over.

    A retouch

Not a bad attempt at all, but the skin seems overly smoothed now, and the blacks are also too black, detracting from the naturalness of the image.
