    thanks, guys. i just couldn't figure it out using blending modes as i tried it before... channels selection did pretty good job, even though i'll probably use good old refine edge (with some edges burn/later highlight) as it is the fastest way and i dont have to bother making b/w masks.

    there is crop tool that you may use. choose it from the toolbox manually insert desired dimensions and if not sure about dpi resolution put 300dpi mark desired area and hit enter.

    How to make background color white without damaging quality

    i do quite a lot of these in my work practice. take images against the white background hit ctrl+L use eyedropper with -sign and click darkest shadow area eventually use history brush to paint over the desired areas of the image in case it effected the object itself.

    it is vector object, made of 9 tildas (~), actually two shapes of tildas, with gradient fills, conveniently rotated and positioned. you'll need coreldraw or illustrator to make it, with some effort you may try it in photoshop.
