    101 Photoshop Shortcuts

An oldie, but memorize these and you will increase your workflow speed many times over.

    Fire Sprite

Its not that I don't like them, but I just don't agree. I value all input, but the defined edge of her hairline/flame was the look I wanted. The fire comes FROM her hair, it isn't supposed to replace it, so it adds volume - like a wig does. Your comments on the cheek blending however, is duely...

    Fire Sprite

I didn't accept just the good comments. Tom showed me that the eyes looked better when they were toned down a bit, and I agreed with him. You don't seem to understand th difference between trying to create fire which behaves naturally, and a fantasy based fire, which her hair is.

    Fire Sprite

Its not meant to look like natural hair. Ever look at the bottom of a fire? Its really bright, then gets less intense toward the ends of the flames. Her hair is essentially lighting up from her scalp. You're looking at it from the perspective of trying to make it look natural, as if a person's...

The cheek needs to be fixed, sure, it was a blending error from the skin crack layer, not a smudge. Perhaps you could explain how you would fix what you see as a problem with the hair? As for over saturation, she's a mutant, so expecting human skin saturation levels is a moot point.

    Fire Sprite

Yep. I like the whites of the eyes better in your version, but I will keep the light coloured irises, because part of the character lore which I made up was that her irises change to a firey colour and glow when she shifts from human to fire form. The flame images I found on Google. Just...

Cheers for the feedback Tom. I agree with you that the face needs to stand out a bit more, but the blending mode needed for the skin effect, and the cracks in the skin to jump out with a decent level of luminance meant that the features are hidden a bit, but I'll play with the settings a bit...

    Quality Control Yourself

Thats a fair assessment, except for CGSociety. I have met and known too many people who have had experience with them, and described them as snobbish and elitist, not even allowing people to hold accounts if their work isn't perfect, and very rudely insulting the artwork of those who are not...

    The Best Photoshop Resources

Agreed, if you want to use Photoshop for illustration, but if you're looking for practical technical info on how PS works, and to get a good understanding of how the program operates, Deke is king. Also, who do you think is appalling? Chris Orwig or Howard Pinsky?

Wrapping text around images - help, thanks.

For text formatting, Photoshop is not the right tool. InDesign is your friend in this case. I'm currently putting together an online publication, and it really is what you need for a book. For great tips on using InDesign head over to lynda.com or indesignsecrets.com has free tutorials.

Whatever buddy. If you can point to someone who knows more about PS than Deke McClelland, link him/her up.

    The Best Photoshop Resources

While I am a formally educated graphic designer, most of what I know didn't come from school. Design schools teach you things such as layout, composition, and industry related stuff, but they don't teach you much about common effects, and how to achieve unusual looks a client may want. Most of...

    Quality Control Yourself

Tom, anyone interested in becoming better at PS has literally thousands upon thousands of great tutorials to help them achieve the look they are after. They are all free, and found easily on Google, YouTube, etc. Failure to use free and easily accessed resources to better a piece IS laziness...

    Quality Control Yourself

Many people will view this site. Casuals viewers, people looking for a wallpaper for the desktop, people looking for a designer to hire and wanting to check the general quality of work out there. I wanted to get it out into discussion because nobody seems to have raised and, and obviously some...

    Quality Control Yourself

PS work is far less subjective than traditional art. There is a saying "Artists are interpreted, designers are understood." This means that due to the need in many PS pieces for convincing realism, PS work is almost never cut the same slack as say...paintings when mistakes are made in form and...

    Quality Control Yourself

Thats awesome. I love helping younger less experienced people who actually want to learn (as opposed to those who have just picked up PS and already call themselves a designer, pain in the face). However I'm sure you've heard of "fauxtographers"? They are the people who take a snap of a patch of...

    Quality Control Yourself

Yes, but I doubt many people here are children. Adults need to learn that a certain standard is expected if they want praise. You're missing the point. If someone takes 5 minutes to slap a couple of cheap effects on a design, its laziness. I remember when I first started using PS, even designs...

    Quality Control Yourself

There is a difference between learning (and I have already stated that, so I'm not sure why people are bringing up the issue of beginners) and sheer laziness. My post refers to the latter. Just because someone is a beginner, is no reason to coddle-critique submissions which are pure crap, and...

    Quality Control Yourself

Everybody likes different things, and we all have different skill levels, and thats just fine. However, I think there needs to be more quality self-control to some of the pieces submitted here. Getting an image an applying the Poster Edges filter to it, slapping some text across it, and...

I think you missed the bottom of the first power pole. Its still in the after version, other than that, its good.
