    That's the default behaviour, this way your working area doesn't get filled with buttons. To see the other tools under the same group just press and hold your mouse button and then choose.

    Need some tips and guide...

    It says duplicate the photo layer. [Select that layer with a click on it and press Ctrl+j] Then goto menu "Filter->Noise->Median" and choose the apropriate setting

    Eraser problem

    First, make sure that you are erasing in the right layer. then, see if there are other layers behind the one you are erasing, because it shows through the erased parts. Make sure you are erasing with a standard brush ( use pencil or block to be sure) Finally, are you in quick Mask Mode?

    It is not "kind of protected" it is locked (see the small padlock??). When we open a jpg file in PS, it sits in the Background (a special locked layer). You can duplicate it (press Ctrl+j) and work on the copy.

    Copy & Paste No problem... I always do this: Firefox: copy Image Alt+Tab PS: Ctrl+N, Enter, Ctrl+V Not so fast, but much cleaner.
