The tiling issue, in brief from what I know(which isn't much) Yes Alistair, you've got an advantage in having what are referred to as 'random tiling texture sets' :righton: I know a couple of game engines that used this principle, but the random tiling of a set of up to 10 textures ina...

Very briefly about 'artefacts'... tiles ok, 256 square... Tile it four times, start to notice a 'pattern' Imagine it on an open expanse, say an outside area in a game... Refer back to Moth's texture that I illustrated tiled alongside itself - the 'damaged' areas stand out as do...

I think it's quite fun really, I havn't done any textures for ages so I'm a bit behind the times. The headache comes from wanting to say it all at once as I remember it :) I'll put down some more stuff when I get in from work later.

Going back to the clouds filter - pretty quick and hassle free way of getting a base to work from. I try to get to a stage where an observer can't tell which filters have been used, basically if a person with a knowledge of Photoshop thinks ' how was that done?' I'm onto something good. For...

Ahh, I was just getting to that. The best and most coolest thing about clouds! excellent that you already noticed ;) if you render clouds on an image that is say 256x256 or 512x512 it automatically tiles seamlessly. (check by using an offset of half the height and width) As a corollary...

I agree with that, but I also have this to add - the marble 'pattern' is consistent between adjacent segments, ie. it follows through from one to the next, sort of disrupts the effect that they are individual pieces. Thinking out loud, without having to do a lot of work to split them up, a...

    TeXture Discussion

Talking specifically about textures for games, the most important thing (almost always) is for them to tile seamlessly. There are some detail type textures where it doesn't matter, or if the texture is designed to create a specific look, but in general having them tile in either one or both...

Same here, only I got annoyed by the American accent and as pointed out by Stroker, we may not want another workflow imposed on us. Some things can be done so many different ways... Nice example Moth, one or two small issues as far as a texture for a game are concerned, but if you're not a...

Something I've never seen before - it's not where you would expect to find it, on a 3D modelling site: http://www.3dbuzz.com/ under the Unreal game editing part of the VTM, there's texturing tutorials. ps. I meant to click the :righton: chap but got the wrong one... sorry.

Ok, I've got another pretty cool link that you might like to share, although it depends on your connection - the file is download only at 112Mb! Video tutorial on game texture making... [shhh]

To be honest, shaders are at the upper end of texture making know-who, a basic understanding will allow you to make the basis of some really nice textures - getting the most out of what is possible, but not all textures need to have shaders... How about we start with some basic ideas, I'm...

    TeXture Discussion

Shaders in a game were introduced in Q3A as a means of animating textures and making all the 'special effects', but with a penalty... Each shader effect required a rendering pass - increasing the graphics load. Neon glows, flashing computer screens, lightning on model 'skins' - all shader...

As for more, I think it may be best if you give more of an indication as to what specifically (for now) you are planning to do. My links list could keep you busy until christmas if you read through say 10 a day... [honesty] %} Also, perhaps if you indicate your current level of...

Hi, I havn't posted in a while but have been reading posts with interest. This question caught my eye and I think I can add some things... ;\ http://www.jaquays.com/ - the Game Art Resources section of Paul Jaquays (ex id Software) site has a lot of good links that he compiled originally...

    PS Crashing with Wacom

I'm thinking along those lines myself, now that it had been brought up... my system resources is only 52% free. [stuned] The thing is, as Rose indicated, I don't know what all these things are (am investigating) so I have no idea which have added themselves that are not really necessary. I've...

Thanks for the in depth list of things to check Erik. I do semi-regular disk maintenance, about once every 2 weeks, and I'm also running Norton's Crashguard which is saving my work from being lost most of the time. I'm going to go through the suggestions made by you all again, carefully...

    PS Crashing with Wacom

Thank's for the suggestion[excited] In the preferences where I can specify the memory fpr PS - it asks for a %age which I set to 100% - this just happens to be 470Mb. I did have the crashing problem before I altered this, the default was 75% so I'll put it back. I've been through the tablet...

    PS Crashing with Wacom

I actually disconnected the other devices from the hub just in case, but it's still crashing occasionally, although only once so far today... but the night is still young. I'm still trying to find if there's a memory setting for the tablet itself, like I said to begin with PS has 470Mb to play...

Thank's for replying kiwi oops, left out tablet type [doh] - A4 intuos2, the diagnostics shows up that everything is working, it registers all the buttons and tilt / pressure. Not sure where to adjust the memory for the tablet control as you suggest [confused] (can't find it - yes I'm stupid)
