    Monitor callibration

Yup, Eric and stickdeisel have it right. The best you can do is calibrate your machine so you see it right, test what you can, and hope for the best. Everybody`s monitors are different.

    Problems editing text in PSD

Maybe I`m missing something, but if you have the fonts installed on you system, why not just type what you need in a new text layer ?

    Healing Brush Tool

Don`t forget with the patch tool, you can select whether you define source, or destination. and with the healing brush, you can choose to sample from a source in the image or a predefined pattern (like clean skin). and with the align checkbox, you can saty aligned or use source...

    pen tool prob

Weird, man. Only thing I can think of is that the selected layer is not editable ? (i.e. , text layer, background, etc). Or possibly the selected layer is invisible ? It`s always the dumb stuff that gets me, so i start there..

    Picture Resources anyone?

Alot of these links also lead to pages of copyrighted images. Be careful about that, Ok ? Try these, maybe http://www.intuitivmedia.de/index2.htm# http://gallery.hd.org/index.jsp http://www.freefoto.com/index.jsp http://www.imageafter.com/index.php http://www.morguefile.com/...

Is this PS too? and if so how to?

Ok, maybe a small book. But there`s alot of reflections and refractions and detail stuff in there. ;)

Is this PS too? and if so how to?

I agree with Gaussian. It can be done in PS. You just reproduce the details you see. The queston is "Is it worth the time?" It might even take more than a book page of Layers.

    smoke trail

Is this *smokier* ? If this is what you meant, I used kiwi`s psd and a soft edged Smudge tool and smeared it around. For more detph, you can duplicate the original and smear it different ways, and adjust opacities.

    Help fixing up a photo?

Interesting challenge. Here`s my go. First, I duplicated the original, set to multiply at about 75% for a ceneral darkening, new layer, merge visible. Then attacked each problem one at a time. Some light smudging for the artifacts, cloned out the glow, a bit of darkening for the washed out...

    Symbols or patterns

You can also make your own Custom Shapes by adjusting a shape layer or creating your own from scratch with the Pen tool. Then go Edit>>Define Custom Shape (or right click with the pen tool active), name it and save it.

    stacked layers 2

I`ve never used Ultrafractal before, so I`m just shooting in the dark, here, but try opening x.psd, and Go File>>Save As and change the filename. (Or maybe duplicate it). Then open y.psd. Who knows. it`s crazy enough it just might work. [confused]

how do i make this style?

    1) fill layer 1 with grid 2) fill layer 2 with orange 3) layer 3: with rectangular marquee, make a box the size of the outside of the border. Go>>Select>>Modify>>Smooth, about 5 px. Fill with new orange. Go>>Select>>Modify>>Contract, by about 4 px. delete. 4) Select border layer, Go...

    stacked layers

In PS 7 ( I believe in Ver 6 also) if you link layers together (or put them in a layer set) you can drag and drop them into a new doc, and they should all show up, and stay in order. But I`m not sure that`s what you`re asking. It sounds as if the new layers are overwriting the ones already...

    Putting the colour back ...

Here`s another shot at it. Duplicated the original, desaturated, convert to CMYK, select each color area and add a clipped curves layer, play with eack channel one at a time. (skin color is not quite right, but you get the idea)
