    dashed lines around an object

Actually, Gaussian, I both have some oblong brushes I downloaded from somewhere (Caligraphy brushesmight work, too.) and made one when I tried this by adjusting roundness in the Brush Tip Shape dialog. <edit> Changed the screen cap to better indicate what I did, added example</edit>

    Align Path Points?

Not sure I understand what it is you`re looking for, but you can select individual points with the Pen tool. (Hold CRTL to make it the Direct Selection Tool) and move it with the arrow keys. In combination with the Guides, you should be able to align them any way you want... Am I missing something ?

How can I turn a treasure map into 3 randomly selected layers?

Just so you know, the Magic wand will also work on greyscale. Uncheck Contiguous, and set the Tolerence to 150 or so and see what you get. If there are still areas that are too identifyable, cut them up with the selection tool of your choice and paste them into different layers.

Problems with white line around image when resizing

If you`re using the marquee tool to make your selection, it may be feathered a pixel or two. Could be anti-aliasing, as well. How are you selecting this area?

    reflection text effect, (newbie)

I don`t have Elements, either, but I`m guessing that he wants you to rasterise a text layer so that you can modify it, yes ? If so, try right clicking the layer in question. Do you get a pop up menu ? Is Rasterise Layer there ?

    dashed lines around an object

In PS 7 and above, you can set the brush to to an oblong brush, oritentate it in the Brush Tip Shape section. Then in the shape dynamics section, turn off Size Jitter and Roundness Jitter and set Angle Jitter to Direction. Then Stroke a Path with the brush tool.

I'm new and I need help with something specific

Welcome, BluePrince. I`m not sure exacly what you want. The Dell logo is a mostly smooth surface (except for the inset letters) and the depth is a simple overlay of light giving the illusion of depth. Your shield is a complicated image whose surfaces would have many different heights, which...

How can I turn a treasure map into 3 randomly selected layers?

If it`s in color, use the Magic wand and adjust the tolerance til it works.

    Background Eraser

Might try outlining it with the pen tool and making a selection from the path. Then invert the selection and mask or delete it. The similarity of colors between the bg and the gnome will give the auto select tools a hard time.

If you can`t find the brush you want in the original collection, pick an area you like and make a new brush from the Yellowish Brush background and save it.

    Blending Photos

That`s sort of like, " How can I build an airplane ?" Lots of situational questions. Basicly see "Help>>Masks" and we can go from there.

    Ok,ok, I admit a noobie...

In the first manip, the biggest problem I see is light and resolution. The original mage is lit from the front and the background is not. The difference in resolution is very obviious. Might try some noise on the bg layer... The second one is plagued by color. And has the same lighting problem.

    Can I separate my greys?

The quick and dirty way would be to use the Magic Wand with the Tolerance set low, and see what you get. Adjust the Tolerance as needed. The best way would depend on the image itself and why you`re separating it this way.
