    I think I get what you mean... try going to View->Proof Colours and ensuring it is selected. Unfortunately Ctrl+Y will toggle this - you're probably used to Ctrl+Y being a 'repeat' shortcut (opposite to Ctrl+Z undo) so you might have toggled this off...
