I want to paint on a PNG's alpha channel directly

Well actually actually, I'm working in C# (Via Unity3D) and when referencing colour data, all of the channels are a float with a 0-1 range, so none of this is accurate. Hehe. Also, I am in fact working with files that are ARGB, not RGBA. But we're getting off track. Thank you all for your...

I want to paint on a PNG's alpha channel directly

Thank you for your reply. I am sorry to say that I am already aware of the ability to add an opacity layer in the channels window. The problem with this is that the most it can do is reduce the opacity of my PNG. It is incapable of restoring alpha from a lower to a higher value. For example, if...

Is it possible to restore opacity in a semi transparent PNG?

Yeah, it seems this is the only way photoshop can do what I need. I can duplicate the layer a bunch of times, collapse it down and apply a mask to it so I can paint it in slowly and precisely. This is a very inelegant and ham-handed solution to the problem and I'm very disappointed Photoshop...

Is it possible to restore opacity in a semi transparent PNG?

Through the channels window, I can paint on the R, G and B channels individually. That's great, but where's the Alpha channel? Photoshop only allows me to create a new opacity layer which simply subtracts from the PNG's native opacity - it can't add to it. What I need is to INCREASE opacity...

I want to paint on a PNG's alpha channel directly

This seems like it should be simple, but I can't figure it out. I have a PNG with some transparency. Through the channels window, I can easily access the individual R G and B data, but I would like to directly paint on the Alpha channel. How can I do that? There are areas of this image which...

Why can't the crop tool do this?

I'm using CS3. Cropping does indeed resample your image. Try it: Enter very large numbers into the width and height boxes of the crop tool and then drag a very small square on your image and hit enter. The image will be resampled to the huge size. Currently, the only way to get a crop...

Why can't the crop tool do this?

The crop tool in photoshop requires you to enter a specific width and height into the boxes. You then drag your selection and photoshop crops and resamples. I wish I could choose to have no resampling done. Why the heck can't I enter a ratio as a crop size instead of specific pixel...

What would YOU do to this beauty?

I lucked out and got a friend to pose for me. I'm very good at cleaning things up in photoshop and making it look "good". But I lack the creativity to make it pop; to make it really look unique. What would you guys do to this photo of her to make it look ...different or interesting?

Workflow problems. Photoshop's trying to help, but isn't.

So this is how I work: 1 .Open image from one folder 2. Edit it 2. Save into a new folder as psd as well as a jpg First problem: Now when I go to save, photoshop always defaults to the folder where the picture was taken from, not where I saved last time. So I then have to navigate to the...

    Copy from here...paste over there??

Awesome, thanks. Why didn't I think of that? That's a huge help for normal copy/paste, but there is one problem. What I'm trying to do is copy from a normal layer and paste into a mask channel, so Ctrl-J wouldn't work there. Is there another way?

    Copy from here...paste over there??

So when you copy and then paste a selection, photoshop almost always pastes way far away from where I copied. Why does it do that and how can I make it stop? I commonly need to be able to copy something and then paste in the exact same spot.
