    NAPP membership question

Lee, another benefit of NAPP is that they do have some good discounts. Not always what you need or want, but they have new ones all the time. And I've found their Help Desk very responsive.

    Type tool won't work Help

Lynny, only thing I can tell you is what you don't want to hear...uninstall and do a fresh install. As for plug-ins, any custom brushes, shapes, gradients, etc....before you uninstall move those out of the PS folder...just move the entire plug-in folder, and others that you know you have custom...

    Type tool won't work Help

Lynne, try moving the Preferences file out of its current folder...just drag it to the desktop. Make sure Photoshop isn't launched. When you're done, relaunch Photoshop; it'll build a new preferences file. See if that works. If it doesn't, you still have your original file. Location of the...

    Copyright Stamp

Glad you got a quick reply, Bob! To reiterate what Gaussian said, never hesitate to ask when you have a problem with Photoshop. Nobody here knows everything, but chances are there's somebody who has an answer to your problem. Don't give up out of frustration :) I know Photoshop can be...

    Adobe Online Training (Element K) / Lynda.com

Cybredao, there is a "New in Photoshop 7" movie; just select Photoshop and you'll see it. As for general tutes, yes, you can follow along in any PS 6 tutorial, and round out your knowledge with the "New in..." movie. There's also a new movie about PS 7 brushes. I haven't gone through it yet, but...

how to remove a background from an image for a web page?

I think that's an excellent idea, Mark! It's a big subject, and as you say both beginner and intermediate users can benefit (I certainly could!) So, a suggestion: Why not label it "Beginner to Intermediate" and post it in both sections? Make it clear what parts of the tutorial are for beginner...

how to remove a background from an image for a web page?

Plastic Guy, welcome to PS Gurus! And I know about crappy chairs! :D There are many different ways of removing a background from an image, depending on the nature of the image. First, copy your background layer and turn off the original (the bottom layer). This isn't necessary to make...

    Curves (Tonal Adjustments?)

http://www.apple.com/creative/resources/ttphotoshop/605curves.html This is a QuickTime movie on Apple's site that explains it very well...it's actually from Total Training. If you're on a PC, you may be a bit disconcerted at the references to the "Apple" or "Command" key; just make a mental...

    Adobe Online Training (Element K) / Lynda.com

I'm a Lynda member, and like it a lot...so much so that I'm considering upgrading to get access to the files. As for Adobe's Element K...I haven't tried it. I HAVE used Element K at work, and I have to say that I don't care for the format in general. However, Adobe's branded stuff may be...

Oh Yeah Baby!! I Got A New Book!!

Great book! I enjoy all of Deke's books. It's time for me to "upgrade" my PS Bible...last one I have is for v. 5. What if they had upgrade prices for books too?

    Scratch Disk

CAPS LOCK off should do it :) (rant) This is a very very common problem because for some strange reason Adobe set that thing to Caps Lock, something people inadvertently leave on a lot (/rant) 7 gigs for a scratch disk should be more than enough, unless your friend works with many huge...

    Where the Helvetica is it?

Mark, you're partially right :) Helvetica is a font that has long been automatically included in the Mac OS, but it's not strictly a Mac font. There are PC versions. Randy, you don't need ATM to install a font; ATM is used to smooth out screen displays. Whether you need it or not depends on...

    Plug-in advise

Plus... If you already know how to do what you want, the slow way, you can record your own action for it! Here's an action on Adobe Studio Exchange for glass...it does put a chrome border around it, but you can always cut that out; the glass itself is sweet...

How to turn on rounded rectangular marque tool?

pdog, to my knowledge there is no PS screen shot command; it's a function of the OS. For Windows: http://www.photoshopgurus.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1850 For Macintosh: http://www.photoshopgurus.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1863&highlight=screen+shots

    Where the Helvetica is it?

Randy, have you checked your font folder to see if Helvetica is still there? If it's there, does it show up in other applications? If it doesn't, you may have a corrupted font.

    Straighten crooked scans easily

It happens to all of us...the heartbreak of an otherwise good scan, but it's at an angle. Sure, you can rescan, but why, when you can do this: 1. Select the Measure tool (it looks like a tiny ruler) 2. Either: drag the tool along the top edge of the scan; follow the angle! Or: find an area...

    Plug-in advise

Lee, there are also lots of free actions at Adobe Studio Exchange. In fact, this is a great site to get to know...they have brushes, styles, shapes, etc. for download.
