    Rough Sketch to Clean Vector

He was insistent on using HIS artwork. Believe me, after the convo we had, I wasn't gonna mess with redrawing it... it would have been a PITA! He wanted some of the variation in line thickness to stick, and he didn't want it to be all straight line/curve vector. He wants it to look hand-drawn...

    Rough Sketch to Clean Vector

I had a client submit an iPhone shot of a rough sketch that he wanted turned into a logo. When I saw the pic, all I could think was, "challenge accepted!" So, after some heavy-duty cleanup and a bit of manipulation/distortion, I've converted it into spot-color vector artwork for him. It's...

    Minimum halftone pixel size?

Resize your grayscale image to be the exact print size at 300dpi. Then, convert to bitmap. (Image > Mode > Bitmap. It should show the 300ppi input, make sure Output says 300ppi and method is Halftone Screen, click ok. Set your frequency to 35 lines per inch, angle at 70, shape as ellipse.

    Restoration of an 1887 Photo

Sorry man, not trying to knock you. I was basing my opinion from your statement in post #8. Sounds like you took appropriate measures, tho. I was just throwing out there to the community that that kind of enlargement is usually a big no-no. I deal with a lot of offset commercial printing...

    Restoration of an 1887 Photo

Up-scaling at any point in the workflow is going to create degradation, period. The method I am advocating preserves the original and your work. The reason for saving the duplicate copy of the file AFTER your work is so your work isn't permanently degraded. As for the process, it really...

    Restoration of an 1887 Photo

I realize that. I was just pointing out that regardless of how small the original, it should not have been up-sized to do the editing. Whatever resolution you're dealing with is as good as it's gonna get. No offense to Crotale, he did a fine job... I'm just saying that the work should have...

    Restoration of an 1887 Photo

No matter the case, the original should NEVER be enlarged!!! Do all of your work at the original resolution and save a copy. Then, it can be blown up later for printing and the original won't be affected.

Brush only paints with a half visible color? dont know how I made it do that. help :(

My fav shortcut is using the bracket keys to increase/decrease brush size, also Ctrl-bracket (or was or shift?) to increase/decrease brush edge hardness.

    landscape/Pre-made Background

I think it looks great! On second thought, the piece could use a distant ship sailing on the sea of grass. ;)

I'm an idiot. How did I alter this text?

Perhaps you typed the text on a curved path?

    Not much for photography but...

That's overkill, you lost refraction and reflections near the edge where the glass curves.

    Question on creating Magma Texture

+1 Another thought is to find a nice rock/marble tile (or photoshop pattern) and apply color adjustments.

    Shape Tool Question

Just choose the shape you want to use. Holding Shift, click-hold on the screen and drag until it's as big as you need it, then release. That created a shape layer, which you can apply a Solid Color adjustment layer to.

    Masking question (specifically the edges)

CTRL-click the mask to re-select it. Feather the selection slightly. Delete old layer mask, apply feathered selection as new layer mask. Using an effects layer, apply a faint multiply outer glow with a dark orange selected from the pumpkin.

Challenge 11: Create Your Own Lighting Effects

After seeing some really cool entries, I thought I'd give some negative space work a shot. Instead of adding lighting affects, I was tasked with muting the majority of the lighting from the original background. I accomplished this via a series of masked adjustment layers (color overlay...

    Some of my work.

I'm definitely not knocking you, just trying to give you a lil push, is all. ;) I remember when I was slightly intimidated by Illustrator. I ended up struggling in Photoshop with tasks that are nearly automated in Illustrator. Take every chance you get to play around and try things there first...
