The Third Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

Happy Halloween There's no sound in an animated gif, so imagine Jack is saying "Happy Halloween". It's rushed and flawed. I used Maya for the p'kin, Poser for the lip synch (the phonemes expressions), then merged them in ImageReady. 25 frames in <100K ain't bad. Gotta scare up dinner now, Gare

Welles Well, Barbara also told me that OS/2 was going to be the next big thing, and that televisions work because there are little people inside, so your evidence appears to be right [saywhat] My Best, Sleeping on the couch tonight for this remark, Gary

Aldi Welles ;) My spouse tells me Trader Joe's was started by these two German guys, and although Liverpool, NY is in the backwash of civilization, we don't have one yet, but the guys also own and run the Aldi food chain which are peppered throughout our hamlet. Good concept, good execution!

Nikkie Nikster--Did you successfully used the candy nozzle I uploaded, or is that your own collage work?? Nice composition :righton: :righton: :righton: So... 1.) What the devil are Java Droplets??? I've never seen them in supermarkets here; do you mean "Java Applets"? In that case, I think...

    Apple Aperature Software

Xara Xtreme I usually cartoon around in Xara, but yesterday I had a dilema--I need to show digital cameras in a book I'm writing, and couldn't get a response from manufacterer's press rooms online for permission to use their photos. So I drew them using Xara Xtreme. Boy, is it fast and...

yes! Yes I am, Lee and BTW thanks for turning us on to SuperPNG! :righton: In addition to levels of compression (I could do with more precise controls, but hey, the price was right), Super PNG can save to Adobe RGB color space, and embed metadata tags for camera, copyright, and EXIF fields...

Aperture and new hardware I hope Aperture serves you well, Lee. It most certainly looks and smells like the professional photographer's tool that is the claim. Recently, I've been working with RAW; my camera's almost 5 years old, doesn't write RAW, so I use images my friends have taken. I see...

Thanks, Welles! Dave and Bruce Fraiser are two Photoshop gurus I trust; they're not the pop stars I'll not name--I'm downloading the podcast right now. Which sort of begs the question: when will there be a Windows version of Aperture? One would think that Steve J. had learned his lesson with...

lasa! Hi lasa! Thanks for carving for us all! I love the teeth...they're perfect (no trick or treat candy, I guess). Did Jack O. Lantern go to a vege-orthodontist? 8} My Best, Gare

The Third Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

Trick or treat! I cobbled a Painter nozzle for the occasion--I have no idea how to do a Mac Painter nozzle, but this Windows one works in Painter v. 6 and later. I scanned some vintage (from the 60s, not stale) candy I bought at a bulk candy store, the put the stuff on layers in PS. Then I...

Re: New software Lee! Haven't heard from you in a while--hi! [shhh] Lee...it's fianc?, but unintentionally made your remark a propos. ;) Adobe Bridge seems to be an equivalent of Adobe Elements' (or Album's) Organizer module. I don't see any editing features, but instead just a convenient...

Darkling Dark Tree shader Darkling's Dark Tree shader isn't new, but I've never seen it discussed. It's a procedural texture creater, it's $400 and change, but worth every penny IMO if you need a good and quick texture background. http://www.darksim.com/ If you're not familiar with a...

    Apple Aperature Software

Xara and CorelDraw I describe Xara to novices as a vector drawing app that thinks it's a bitmap editor--with the right after-market book (I wish I could write it), Xara could be an all-in-one image creation program for household use. The main hurdle I see is PostScript technology, which Adobe...

    Apple Aperature Software

I see Apple has unveiled Aperture today. It's advertised as an image editor for professional photographers, with a SMRP of $500. You can pre-order it, which suggests it's not been released yet. I'm supposing it's Macintosh-only, and should be a welcome upgrade from iPhoto. The screen caps show...

The Third Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest

We had a lot of fun the past two years designing Jack-o-Lantern faces using Xara, Photoshop, and even some modeling apps to design that perrenial favorite, so here it is again. Use the photo below, or your own, and virtually carve away (and save the seeds for roasting). To get started, there's...

    The October Free For All

Re: The October Free? For?All Nitro--looks more like a splash screen for Premiere, no? \:/ BTW, I found out that Firefox doesn't give you that certificate message by default, and neither will IE if you got your permissions set up. Here's a link to Cal Henderson's site, where you can download...
