    HELP: use a blending mode to extract?

    I have a high-res image of a model of a ship that I'm looking to put on top of a seascape image. The pictures below are a lot smaller and cropped then actual, but you get the idea. Here is a crop of the image of the ship, luckily it's on a plain background and nothing more complicated...

    Sorry for the double post, but I just realized that you did a sky replacement (I think), so I guess the halo is left over from extracting the castle.

    Nice, there's a halo around the castle wherever it's against the blue sky (not clouds) that's bugging me, probably brought out from the color correction and contrast changes. Nothing big, though.

    How to do this effect

    If you're talking about taking a photograph and making that effect with it, simply boosting the contrast won't do it. I'd say you would use the Cut Out filter on a desaturated image.
