    My problem with clean compositions

    I think there are shadow problems. Pic 1 The light source for the model is predominantly from the viewers right yet the gas mask has highlights on both sides, agree with Clare with shadow on shoe being off. Background much brighter than foreground with different light source (above) I think...

    Basic tools on separate panel

    I don't think you can. In illustrator theres a flyout button when click on tools with multiple tool options in the tool palette. PS doesn't have that flyout button in its tools.

    That's ok I guess. The cpu is AMD and has 8 cores. Imo intel i5/i7 would be nicer and especially the haswell versions as they run on less power. However 8 cores are cool if you get into after effects as the more the cores the merrier after effects renders. Wouldn't you rather a 17" full hd...

    Text won't print on jpeg

    Only thing I can think of is are you certain that you are using the horizontal type tool and not the horizontal type mask tool? Also, there is no need to use the select tool (marching ants) because you can (when it eventually works) move the text around with the move tool as it is on its own...
