Greetings All! Olympus 5060 user, your advice please...

Just to make clear a point... In Aperture Priority mode you can fix the ISO setting manually (Not to high). With a tripod you will then not need to worry too much about the shutter speed. With traditional film you would generally use higher ISO's in low light, but as already mentioned...

Greetings All! Olympus 5060 user, your advice please...

Hi. In Auto the camera may very likely increase the ISO setting (Film Speed). This allows the camera to use a faster shutter speed or wider aperture for lower light conditions. Unfortunately this is where digitals suffer. The higher the ISO the more sensitive the sensor needs to be and the...

    Latest pictures - september 04

Hi lombi. An excellent group of images. The dog I particularly like. The only image I would consider altering is the horses. The second horse would benefit from either being fully in focus (difficult I know) or better still, fully out of focus (which could still be achieved in PS) . I...

cut off corners using stroke menu

If all you're trying to do is create a solid sharp edged outline, you can simply create a rectangle selection on a new layer, fill it with your chosen colour, then reduce the rectangle selection the desired amount and cut the centre from the rectangle. Sark

    Illustrator question.

sPECtre You would think it should be that easy, but PS does not open/import .ai files as paths, it rasterizes them. You can drag and drop paths from Illustrator to PS or, use the clipboard, not open or import. Why you can't open an .ai file as a path is beyond me, but you can't, not in my...

    need help

If the image is two colour, with clear space between the objects to be counted, you could in theory trace the image to convert it to a vector. Seperated and ungrouped each solid colour element would be an object. Apps like Illustrator or CorelDraw can then list the number of objects present...

    Illustrator question.

Welles Thanks for the reply, it's much appreciated. I think it actually confirms that what I was hoping to do is not possible. PS's primary vector/path import method appears to be the clipboard. This is fine from Illustrator but, Corel just puts .cdr vectors on the clipboard, not .ai and...

    Illustrator question.

Hi all. Can anyone using Illustrator tell me if it can export a Photoshop .pdf (not generic .pdf) that will open in Photoshop (complete with paths intact as paths). I ask this because I'm trying to work out a way of getting my CorelDRAW paths into Photoshop. I know it can be done by...

I am sure there is a simple answer to this...

You might be better working with the perspective transform tool. You will then need to select the image with the rectangle selection tool and cut, or copy the layer to achieve square edges. Sark

    Stroking paths

sPECtre, Hi. Firstly, no offence was intended by the suggestion you cheated. I had just considered you might have stroked subpaths, of the main paths, seperately. No harm in that but, not quite achieving the intended goal. Clearly this was not your method. I'm still not 100% clear how you...

    Stroking paths

Dodo. Interesting, shall give that a go tonight. Messing around last night I thought I had solved sPECtre's method, but not so sure. If you create a path and stroke it, you can apply a layer style to the stroke using Inside as the option and setting a pixel thickness that's larger than...

    Stroking paths

Welles.. Have now had a look at the Photoshop techniques site. It's probably my inexperience, but they appear to "talk in tongues" [confused] 8} [confused] sPectre is clearly ably to apply a gradient stroke to an open path but, I'm at a loss to figure out how he did it. I did...

    Stroking paths

Thanks for the replies, they're much appreciated. Elysian...That perfect, I couldn't find a way to create a shape without a fill, nor a way to remove the fill other than selecting and deleting, which was not ideal. Have only just upgraded to PS7, now I know how useful that second slider on...

    Stroking paths

Hi all. Stroking a path with a solid colour is easy enough but, is there away of stroking with a gradient. I know you can do this to a shape path via layer styles, but I can't create an open shape path and stroke it with a gradient, nor for that matter, can I create a closed shape path...

    Illustrator Expression 3.3 preview/beta version...

Just spent half an hour getting to the download page only to discover it's a .exe. (I can only download zip files on the public system I use). :( This seems to be more common these days. I know zips don't always make a huge difference but, not everybody has broadband and every little bit...

    Framing a print

Neolite. Just one minor correction to the above. If you reduce 10" to 9.5" you will of course have 0.25" borders. For 0.5" borders you would drop from 10" to 9". I guess you would have figured this out yourself, but didn't want you wasting another $2.99 :D Which incidently, is about a...

    Framing a print

Neolite. Try this, it is basically what Erik suggested. Open your 10 X 8 inch image. Open the Image size dialogue, make sure the Resample image checkbox is unchecked. The Document size setting for H & W should show 10” X 8”, if set to inches. Lets say you want a 0.5” border. Just reduce...

    Framing a print

Scaling requires the image to be resampled. On a photographic image resampling will always cause some deterioration in image quality. 5% may be negligible, but it is still preferable to avoid resampling when it is not absolutely necessary. The method Erik describes is the better approach...

    Stroking paths (PS6)

Welles I guess that just strengthens the upgrade option. At least with PS7 I know I can create perfect strokes. I also prefer paths as they are more versatile. Thanks again for posting. Sark

    Stroking paths (PS6)

Thanks for the replies. Welles...Your first test was similar to the results I achieved, though I got an even bumpier effect stroking the path. This, like theKeeper and Stroker pointed out, may be due to path/document size and the stroke and curve characteristics of the path. It's also...
