Requesting C & C: Tank on the road

That's a very cool pic. I think you did a great job of integrating it into your scene. I downloaded the trial version of topaz filters and started playing around to see what type of effects I could come up with. It's a neat filter set, but it has about a million and two settings so I can't...

    any help on this effect?

I played around with this a little bit. Not quite there, but getting closer (I think). - masked off and desaturated the background. - slight gaussian blur - added plastic wrap filter to the players (may need to go stronger on that effect) - adjusted levels - adjusted shadows and highlights -...

    Help recreating image please

You sure can. When you draw your shapes, just put them on a new transparent layer. When you save the file use either GIF or PNG so that the transparency will be preserved.

    Quick-and-Dirty Selections

Thanks. This is a technique that I learned while using PS Elements. I've just started using the 30 day trial of photoshop and haven't played with refine edge yet. Simple as that.

    Quick-and-Dirty Selections

Pulled from another thread because I thought others might get benefit from this. In reference to the above image, MikeMc said: Thanks, Mike. The pen tool would be the most precise option. However, in this instance, I didn't feel like taking the time to trace around each individual...

    Help recreating image please

You want to use the Pen Tool for that. After drawing the shape with the pen tool, you can convert it to a vector shape which can then be resized to any resolution and still remain crisp and clean. These links will get you started: http://www.photoshopcafe.com/tutorials/pen/pen.htm...

I need some flames over here

I don't have time to play with it today, but here is a tutorial which is pretty easy to do. I believe you can achieve the desired effect if you try it. This is the written version of the above video. http://www.photoshoplab.com/light-your-house-on-fire.html

    Editing two pictures

My actual PSD file is quite large. Here's a much reduced version so that you can see how I laid out the layers.

    touching up (real) calligraphy

Repositioning the layers is pretty straight-forward. Just click on one of the layer thumbnails then drag it up or down to change it's position in the layer stack. As to your scan, I'll mess with it a little bit but cannot guarantee any better results. Some of those lines are very faint and...

    touching up (real) calligraphy

Rather than deleting the white areas, you might try using a layer mask instead. This will achieve the same effect of hiding the background, but will do it in a non-destructive manner to better preserve your original scanned image. (1) Open your image (2) Activate the layer mask by clicking...

    touching up (real) calligraphy

That's some beautiful handwriting, Meola. You might try copying the layer with [Command+J] or [Control+J] then change the new layer to "Multiply". If the effect is too strong, adjust the opacity of the "Multiply" layer to reduce the effect. This should help darken some of the lighter areas.
