    Nice work Paul. Very surrealistic.

    Faded Airforce Photo

Thanks for the kind words. I have done quite a few restorations for historical institutions. I really appreciate the compliment.

    3 kids on chairs

Thanks for the constructive comments. I had a look at the sample and the only difference is that it has only one light source and in mine I was simulating 2. Notice the working image top left has a shadow from the chair front and back and also a very distinct shadow around the head, on the...

    3 kids on chairs

Thanks Paul, I know what you mean. Unfortunately because the working photos cannot be re-shot, the only thing to do is improve the image that is the lowest quality as much as possible and then lower the quality of the others to match. Lowest common denominator if you will.

    Using a tablet/pen in PS?

Without a doubt, get one. I usually recommend getting the largest one you can afford. I've had a 12" Wacom Intuos II for 9 years now, working with it at least 6 hours a day and the only thing I've ever had to service is changing the pen nib and the tablet overlay, which is easy to do yourself...

    Illustrator transparent with shadows

In Photoshop, make a selection around the blue and white rectangle with the face (excluding the shadow) then copy that to a new layer. Go back to the bottom layer and change the layer mode to "Multiply" then go to "File/Save for Web and Devices" and save it as a png 24 file (with the...

Make a face close eyes and pout lips for a kissing expression

Re: i need help...how to make a face close eyes and pout lips for a kissing expressio Puppetwarp - but it's only available in Photoshop CS5. It's always best to have a target image to work toward but it shouldn't be too difficult to find an image of a kissing face for reference. If you upload...

    Age Simulation

Wondering if anyone else has tried age simulation using Photoshop and if so, perhaps they could post them. This first photo shows a young girl - age 6 - who was tragically suffocated while hiding in a storage chest while playing hide-and-seek. Her father wanted to have a simulation of how...

    Really, really dark photo

The story behind this one: Photographers used to improperly fix their proofs (rather than stamp "proof" on them) so if people didn't order the larger prints, the proofs would turn dark. This couple actually ordered prints and gave the "prints to their parents. Later, because of a fire, the...

    Bison

This one wasn't particularly difficult to restore but it's a very interesting photo. I've never seen one like it because most photos taken that long ago were posed, not candid like this one.

Photoshop or Illustator for Professional Printing

Epson makes good scanners. Their perfection photo scanner series would work well for what you're doing; I'd go with $150 - $200 price range, more if your budget allows. Photoshop will work well for the workflow you describe. Most printers these days prefer pdf's so make sure you understand how...

Trying to get rid of Black with content aware

It looks like you want a longer gradient, probably going a little darker on top and lighter on the bottom. Probably best to recreate the gradient using the gradient tool. First, with your image open, click on the foreground colour at the bottom of the tool pallet, then click on the lightest...

You're welcome to give it a try. I posted the working file in another post but here it is again. All the best.

    Colourization using curves and masks

Right you are Steve. I have been colouring photos this way for years. Here's how it's done: Note: It's a good idea to practice the steps below and after you're comfortable with the layer/curve/mask step, start over and record them as an action - you'll be glad you did. Create a new layer and...

    Working file for "Interesting Tree"

In case anyone wants to play around with re-creating "Interesting Tree" from a previous post of mine: Explanation of what this is: Spherical Panoramas are created by capturing as few as 12 or as many as 108 images of a scene from one point. These images must cover 180 x 360 degrees, meaning...
