Layer only affecting certain other layers

This is a very slow way to learn photoshop. Lynda.com is very inexpensive considering the amount of information you can get in a month if you apply yourself in study.

How Do I Get Crisp, Clean, Tones In My Images?

Are you shooting in RAW or JEPG? What do you do if anything for post processing? Audrey doesn't seem to be doing anything special with lighting except using natural light well.

Pixels outside of selection getting deleted.

Is your selection tool feathered at all? If it is feathered just one or two pixels I think it would give you an edge like this. I would make sure the feather is set to 0 and anti-aliasing is off, if I understand what you are doing right.

    Help with Magic Lasso/Lasso tool

I would use the pen tool for this because there are no important stray hairs, but you could also do it with it with the polygonal lasso tool by making many points and then smoothing it out with the refine edge dialog. I never use the magnetic lasso because it hardly ever gets what you want...

help with canvas draging wacom tablet...

Are you pressing the space bar when it happens? Pressing the space bar brings up the hand tool. If your canvas is larger than the window drawing near the right and bottom edge may cause the scroll bar to jump to a different location if you go into the scroll bar just a little bit. There...

    how was this done?

Change the flag layer's mode to overlay and see what happens. From the darkness of your example I think it possible multiply may have been used instead of overlay. Also a displacement map may have been used. Google a tutorial for displacement map.

such effect? is it blur or something?

I think the first photo is just good lighting and the sheen from the vail. The second looks like it might be a softlight highlight blur. He may have chosen the highlights from one of the channels, most likely red. You can do that by ctrl/alt clicking on the red channel thumbnail. Then...

How to get rid of Shadows in a portrait

All of these will require a mask. 1 Shadow highlight. Duplicate the layer. Go to Image/adjustment/shadow highlight. Play with the shadow amount and tone until the shadow you don't like is much reduced or matches the rest of the wall. Alt or Opt + click on the mask Icon at the bottom of...

    Help with matching skin tones

Try painting with the history brush on a multiply layer for making the lighter area darker, or on screen layer to make the darker area lighter. You will probably have to play with opacity and a little blur. You might try selecting the area to be darkened with color range and then jumping or...

Reducing colors in photoshop? (making many colours fewer)

If you have access to a copy of Corel Painter, you can try the woodblock effect. With it you can specify the exact number of colors and even choose which ones they will be.

Reducing colors in photoshop? (making many colours fewer)

Try using either a posterize adjustment layer, or the cutout in the artist filters. cutout is more adjustable.

    Canvas extension color: transparency?

I figured it out. First change the background layer to a layer by double clicking and renaming it. Then enlarge the canvas and it extends as transparency. Thanks for any work you might have put in to figure this out.

    Canvas extension color: transparency?

I watched a Deke Mcclelland tutorial about the content aware scaling in CS4. As part of the tutorial he enlarged the canvas size. His canvas extension color was grayed out in the dialoge box and the extension color opened as transparency. How did he do that? I can't figure it out.

    Colour Question

If you are coloring on a photo the color mode of the brush should match that of the photo automatically. So if something is weird is happening on a photo check to see that your brush mode is set to normal. The mode setting is located under the menu bar when your brush tool is selected. If...

WOW...I think im making this harder than it has to be

You probably aren't making this harder than it has to be. It depends a bit on how busy the background is, on the contrast between your person and the rest of the photo, on the color differences, on the resolution, on how nice you want the cut out to be... There isn't a quick solution to...
