Decrease canvas size by removing a selection from the middle?

Is it possible to reduce canvas size by having a set width or height removed from the center of the image and having the remaining sides collapse in together? For example, say I have a 800x600 image, and I want to remove a 800x100 horizontal slice from the middle, thus reducing the image...

Zooming/panning using the mouse wheel scroll

Hey everyone, Lately I've been frustrated by the functionality of the zoom in Photoshop - and I don't mean the Zoom Tool, but simple zoom in/out operations. I seem to recall that the default behaviour in Photoshop was that you zoomed with Ctrl+mousewheel scrolling, and if you just scrolled...

suggestions on how to improve a picture in PS?

Hello everyone, I took a picture of a romantic place in Durham (England). You can see it here -- http://www.badongo.com/pic/5470867?size=original I think there are things that can be done in Photoshop to improve this picture and do justice to the beautiful scene - for example, somehow...

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

Thanks very much, I really appreciate it!

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

OK - I managed to do it! All I had to do is define anchor points in the inflexion points of the curve-to-be-traced (i.e. the points where the second derivative is zero) and then tweak the curve segments between two consecutive APs. Thanks again to all who replied.

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

Even less clear... Could I possibly ask you to upload a video of you doing this on youtube or something? In the meantime I'll try some more to follow what you said but it's rather hard to visualize.

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

@X-Force: ok, here's what I've been meaning :) 2 APs Pictures, 2 APs Images, 2 APs Photos, 2 APs Videos - Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting -- this is what I get after creating a simple curve (what I've been calling a parabola), using 2 anchor points 3...

    Visibility of paths

I see - thanks a lot for your response!

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

Yes - tracing the gaussian curve with the pen tool is exactly what I want to do, however I cannot go past the first step: I've created a parabola by dragging the second anchor point, but beyond that, any additional anchor points that I create will just give the parabola a far too complex...

    Visibility of paths

Right - I see what you mean, and you're right, it is what I have been doing, however the reason for that is that I wanted to control each curve independently of the other, as with regular layers. So I thought if I put them each on its own "path layer", this will be easier, but as mentioned...

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

I can use the pen tool for basic tasks, this one however escapes me. I know once I've created the first curve I have to add another "degree of modulation" to it by using a combination of Ctrl or Alt plus dragging anchor points.. I will experiment more but if anyone has a quick fix I'd very much...

    Visibility of paths

No, I actually haven't even defined any layers, there's just the Background.

    Visibility of paths

Hello everyone, I'm using the Pen Tool to draw several paths; I need to draw each path with reference to the other, previously drawn, paths. This is where I encountered a problem with Photoshop CS3: whenever I create a new path, the old ones become invisible, and I can only see one path at a...

Creating a bell-shapped (Gaussian) curve with the Pen Tool

Hello everyone, I'm trying to create a bell-shaped (Gaussian) curve in Photoshop CS3, using the Pen Tool, however apparently I am not good enough with it... I can create a curve that resembles a simple (upside-down) parabola, however I can't figure out how to further go from here in order to...
