    Thanks:) It works...though there's just one little problem. The shadow areas that are too dark don't seem to be affected by the dodge tool. I've set the range to 'Highlights' and Exposure to around 60%. Though following your advice did give me good control over the other areas in red.

    Hello, I made a heart with the pen tool and gave it a gloss and shine effect (somewhat similar to a balloon) using layer effects like Satin, Gradients etc. However, it needs proper shading in certain areas which can only be done if I could use the Dodge/Burn tool over this shape. I tried but...
