    How to create a "horizontal drop shadow separator" bar

    I don't think that's what he was after. The effect in the image rsturim provided is more nuanced than just a drop shadow. You'll notice that it starts out thin, grows thick in the middle, and ends thin again. I'm also interested in how to achieve this.
