    ~Sidefx's Gallery

Here's an example of a concept artist that works a lot with contrasting shapes for composition. Mostly he does this through silhouette's. He's got big broad areas of silhouette or sky that lead the eye towards the point of interest: Tableta Machina

    ~Sidefx's Gallery

Very nice work!! Are you going into concept design for games or film? You'd fit in well. I think your skill level is up there. I don't know about the pirate image. It's good, but maybe leave it out of your portfolio for high-end work. Only critique I can think of is perhaps mix up the...

    Tunnel shapes

You could use a 3D program like Maya or 3dsMax, but that's only if you want super precise or a very detailed image. I heard Photoshop has a 3d feature? I'm not sure about that... but worth looking into. The simplest way would be to create one elliptical shape that matches the second arc in...

    My work.

I like your compositions. My favorite of all these is the 'go green'. Very simple, yet with a finished look (like Terry was mentioning) Lost in Space is very interesting too. I wonder if you could push that further somehow?

    Three tree

Yes, the third! Like a few others have said, I'd add more color to the top. In my opinion I'd also mute the color on the bottom a little. So that overall it's just a light wash of color. Very well done though!!

How is my logo looking so far?

I'd simplify the letters (no shading) and make them more bold. Perhaps a different font, because this one looks a little common. And it would be neat if the jet stream sort of curved with the shape of the circle. And you could use a real smoke element. Look on Google images.

    Can't select foreground color. Help

I've never seen that happen. If no other guru suggests something better, I say re-install Photoshop. Since that's such a hassle, it may be worth giving Adobe an email.

    Lighting Glow?

I don't use illustrator very much, but it looks like they at least started there. That would be the best way to get smooth shapes. Then - duplicate layer & set layer mode 'screen'! that's they key! Then repeat and apply a gaussian blur to this 'screened' layer. Here's a fantastic article on...

HELP! I need to merge a background into this image, and I don't know how.

yeah, he attached an image, but in his message there's a link to a website. I don't know why, but my virus detection software went crazy after I went to that site.

    Crash Test Dummy face

That's tricky because the lines of the crash test dummy's 'cheched' look would have to match the curves of the mode's face. If you were at a visual effects studio they woudl model it in 3D and apply a texture. But if you don't know 3D then here's what I'd do: find an image of a crash test...

    Dome wireframe effect

okay, here's what I'd do: 1. First look up an image of a dome that's a pretty close fit. I'm going to presume you can't find a dome you don't find a dome you can just plop in. However, still use it for getting the perspective correct. Use it as a guide for the next part. (scale it an place...

    PLease Guys Help Me

yeah, I'm on the same page as Ira Garcia. In a little more detail, here's what I think you need to do: 1. Use a curve tool (on an adjustment layer, not directly) and pull up the highlights and pull down the darks. The curve will look like an 'S' turned 90 degrees right. Play with this a...

    Dome wireframe effect

More specifics please! If you have the image you plan to photoshop it into, that'd be the best place to start. If you can't post yet, then just try to describe it. Cheers!

    Before and after

Saphire, this work is beautiful! the second image of the girl is really neat, just like a romantic era painting. The Jack Nicholson is great tool It really looks like he's wearing the outfit. On Jack's pic, what struck me as a little off is his ear. It could use a little warping to look...
