How to get rid of everything under a layer, but not in same space as layer?

Ahoi! Forgot about the thread in my exitement of working on that project and a few others. I have listened to what everyone is saying, and to tell you the truth, I have used each of the methods and they all work great. Yes, I really just wanted the basic border outline of the shape in question...

How to get rid of everything under a layer, but not in same space as layer?

Aha! I had it backwards :) After I create that clipping mask....how do I then make that new image into a "normal" layer? I know this might sound dumb, because all I want to do is then move that new image I have made with the clipping mask back underneath the original top layer "cutout" image...

How to get rid of everything under a layer, but not in same space as layer?

I'll check it out. I already have a bookmarks folder with like...30 pages already :) It's a slow recovery process :)

Is it possible to resizeand squish with the elliptical tool?

Word. I used to be very quick around PS, but I've forgotten all the really basic stuff. Any recommendations on literature to reacquaint myself with the program?

Is it possible to resizeand squish with the elliptical tool?

I have an elliptical looking image, and what I want to do, is take that image and then resize/squish/scrunch it, so that it's size is smaller, and more circular than elliptical. Is this possible to do in Photoshop? This function is present in MS paint, so i figure a more sophisticated...
