    Just go to Image>Mode>CMYK This will convert your existing document and display the colors you will be printing in. You will probably need to run calibrators on your monitor and printer to get these values to match. Until then it will be more of trial and error type of process.

    You're outputting a RGB file to a CMYK printer, and for ease of use, should be using a CMYK color space. That is where your color difference came from. We could get into all sort of discussions regarding color space, profiles, rip systems, etc... but that is your basic answer.

    Are you using a layer mask? It sounds like you are using the mask to clip your second layer to overlay on top of the first. A screenshot of your layers pallete might help determine what you are trying to do.. As a shot in the dark, make sure you have your mask selected and not the actual...

    Airbrush banding

    Adding a noise will take care of it for certain. Also, you could try reducing your brush size. I have noticed similiar things when the brush is set at 800px or above on larger documents. Hope this helps

    clipping?

    Clipping is a vector path that can be defined by the pen tool. To get rid of it: Go to your Window Menu and open up the Paths pallete. You should see a clpping path available in this menu, just drag it to the trash can on that pallete and it is gone. Hope this helps.

    I've never been able to just switch to overlay without the blow outtalking about, unless it was a very dark image with limited midtones and no highlights. A levels adjustment on the overlay layer should get you the desired results. Alternatively, you can use multiply for a transparent layer...
