Hi Guys... I just got myself a new edition of Photoshop CS6...

I am a complete newbie and have never worked with photoshop before... I want to get off mark with this new assignment.. I want suggestions on how can I add edit a photo of a normal face with black/death metal/KISS style black and white corpse paint step by step...

Thanks in advance....

This is actually pretty straightforward... I had gone through this before... I was looking at working on something a bit challenging, check the pic in the link...

Thanks anyways...

It's angled upward and not face forward... Actually thinking if there was a workaround for this... Otherwise, I should have to approach by the method given which seems a bit difficult given the angle...

Nevermind, I'll try the method tonight and see how it works..

This is the final product of four hours spent in front of my comp....

Tell me how good is this for a first assignment...

And please please do give some suggestions on how to further improve this pic!

Cheers!

What you could do is change the opacity of the black layer to about 85-90% and change the blending mode to overlay. This might make it more realistic.

Also the edges of where the makeup is looks too defined, try using a softer+smaller brush and really take your time cleaning up those edges.

If you could upload the psd file or take a screenshot of your layers and post it, I might be able to help you further.

This is an example of the the way I would do it (took about 2 minutes).

But do something with those teeth. PLEASE, lol. They are the focal point. My eyes go there first and it makes me shudder, but not in a good way. The highlights are blown out. They need detail in other words. I don't know if there is anything to recover. One of the first things you need to do in any project is make sure that the photo is the best you can make it. Color balance, levels or curves, sharpness, overall contrast and balance of different pieces of any image (for instance, the teeth versus the skin of face), these things should be done before manipulations.

Looks like you're having fun so that is great. Just don't overlook actually learning Photoshop. Keep it up!
