Hmmm...tried it but that only zooms in on the layer. But if I alt + click (windows) on that little eye, it does show only that layer...

Incredibly helpful suggestion - was working on a private job for a few days with at least 20 layers. Sometimes I didn't mark the layers and ended up turning off all the layers except that one to find out what was in it. To get everything back, just alt + click on the eyeball again. Many thanks for the tip!
