Thanks Gaus - this is an area that I want to learn more about! :D

Thanks for the link, I'm certainly going to have to read this one! Never quite understood how to use the unsharp mask effectively!

BEWARE!!!!
Timo, the writer of this site, seems to have, let's say, peculiar view about a lot of topics...

Bruce Fraser, (reknowned PS guru)and Chris Cox (one of PS engineers) had a lot of arguments with him in the Photoshop Forums about color management!

OTOH, if the technique works for you , it's fine!

That's a BIG "beware" Pierre :bustagut: and surely not without a reason.
I hope he knows more about USM though or we all start thinking that we need to visit the eye doctor and we don't want that to happen, do we? :bustagut:

Yeah, I spend a lot of time in the Adobe forums and I remember the clashes between Timo, Bruce, and Chris. I followed the threads and my vote was with Bruce and Chris. Having seen this I may need to go back to the Adobe forums and see what they have in their archives.

helas, the archives last only for 6 months...

I re-read the linked tut... the first part, the explanation seems correct, the pictures are, on the other hand oversharpened... it almost hurts looking at them.!! Also, it is strange not to fight noise/artefacts before sharpening a picture. I think the biggest danger about Timo is its" linear space" and his POV about color management...
